单词 | otheoscope |
释义 | otheoscopen. Now historical and rare. A modification of Crookes's radiometer in which the black or driving surface is stationary, whilst the cooling surface is movable. ΚΠ 1877 W. Crookes in Proc. Royal Soc. 26 177 As it is essentially different in its construction and mode of action to the radiometer, I propose to identify it by a distinctive name, and call it the Otheoscope (ὠθέω, I propel). 1910 Science 21 Jan. 102/2 In 1872 he..invented the radiometer, which he afterwards modified as the otheoscope. 1996 Bull. Sci. Instrument Soc. No. 50. 42/1 The ‘radiometer effect’ is not radiation pressure but a gas heating effect... This fact is brought out most clearly in the related device, also invented by Crookes, the ‘otheoscope,’ which separates the radiation heated surface from the moving one.
