单词 orbito-
释义

orbito-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly. Some degree of stress is usually maintained on the first syllable. If the subsequent element is an existing word, it is likely to retain its original stress pattern, e.g. orbito-frontal Brit. /ˌɔːbᵻtə(ʊ)ˈfrʌntl/, U.S. /ˌɔrbədoʊˈfrən(t)l/.
Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: orbit n.; Latin orbita , -o- connective.
Etymology: < orbit n. or its etymon post-classical Latin orbita + -o- connective. Compare French orbito- (formations in which are found from the 19th cent., in e.g. orbito-frontal (1837–8 or earlier), orbito-nasal (1868 in Littré)).Formations in English are found from the 19th cent.
