Etymology: < French orbitaire relating to the orbit of the eye (1562 in Middle French) < orbite orbit n. + -aire -ar suffix1. Compare post-classical Latin orbitarius (1696 or earlier), and earlier orbitary adj.R. G. Mayne Expos. Lexicon Med. Sci. (1857) gives a Latin form orbitaris. N.E.D. (1903) gives the pronunciation as (ǭ·ɹbităɹ) /ˈɔːbɪtə(r)/.
