Origin: From a proper name, combined with an English element. Etymons: proper name Ouida , -esque suffix.
Etymology: < Ouida, the pen name of the English novelist Marie Louise de la Ramée (1839–1908) (apparently a childish mispronunciation of Louise) + -esque suffix.
Characteristic or suggestive of the novels of ‘Ouida’; spec. (of a male character) impossibly perfect; handsome and accomplished to an implausible extent.
