单词 ougle
释义

ougleadj.

Forms: late Middle English ogel, late Middle English oggel, late Middle English owgel, 1500s ougle, 1500s owgle.
Origin: Apparently a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: ugly adj.
Etymology: Apparently a variant of ugly adj., although the alteration of the ending is difficult to explain. The Middle English forms may simply represent errors for ugly adj. (compare forms in final -le at that entry, and compare variation at -ly suffix1, -ly suffix2), but the early modern forms in -le are more difficult to account for.
Obsolete.
Ugly, repulsive; horrible, frightful.
