Etymology: < ancient Greek ὄρθιος high-pitched, upright ( < ὀρθός straight (see ortho- comb. form) + -ιος, suffix forming adjectives) + -an suffix.Ancient Greek ὄρθιος > classical Latin orthius (Gellius).
