Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French oratore.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Middle French oratore oratory (second half of the 12th cent. in Old French; also in Old French as oratur (c1174), oratour (c1306); Anglo-Norman and Middle French, French oratoire : see oratory n.1) < post-classical Latin oratorium oratory n.1With sense 2 compare oratory n.1 2. In Older Scots a form oritoire is also recorded.
Obsolete. Chiefly Scottish.
