Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: orange n.1, -ade suffix.
Etymology: < orange n.1 + -ade suffix, after French orangeade (1680 in this sense; compare orangeado n.) or lemonade n. Compare Italian aranciata (1726 in this sense), Portuguese laranjada (1873 in this sense), Spanish naranjada (1816 in this sense); compare orangeado n.
(a) A drink composed of orange (and sometimes lemon) juice diluted with water and sweetened with sugar. (b) Chiefly British. A carbonated orange-flavoured soft drink.
