Etymology: < orange n.1 + tree n.
Any of the trees producing oranges (orange n.1 1a), evergreens of the genus Citrus (family Rutaceae) with fragrant white flowers, which probably originate in South-East Asia but are cultivated in many warm-temperate and subtropical regions of the world. Also (with distinguishing word): any of various other trees resembling these in fruit, blossom, etc. (cf. orange n.1 3).native, New Zealand, Osage orange tree: see the first element.
