A member of a people of eastern Africa, forming one of the two largest ethnic groups in Ethiopia, with subgroups also inhabiting parts of Kenya.Both the people and their language (see sense A. 2) were formerly known as Galla; the term is still used occasionally but is not generally favoured by the Oromo themselves and is regarded as pejorative (see Galla n. and adj.).
