Etymology: < oro- comb. form1 + -gen comb. form, after German Orogen ( L. Kober Der Bau der Erde (1921) i. 21). Compare kratogen n., and earlier orogenic adj., orogenesis n., orogenetic adj., orogeny n.In form orogene perhaps after French orogène (1956 or earlier).
