Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French orobe.
Etymology: < French orobe a kind of vetch (14th cent. in Middle French; c1256 in Old French as orbe : see below) < post-classical Latin orobus orobus n. Compare earlier orobus n., orobe-strangler n. Compare also oreb n.French orobe is applied by modern French botanists to Orobus tuberosus (now Lathyrus montanus).
Obsolete. rare.
A seed of a kind of vetch or wild pea; the plant itself (cf. orobus n.).
