Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin operculum , -i- connective.
Etymology: < classical Latin operculum cover, covering, lid (see operculum n.) + -i- connective.Attested in a small number of formations from the 19th and 20th centuries, as below. Compare French operculi- (formations in which are found from at least the first half of the 19th cent.).
Zoology.
Of or relating to an operculum.
