Etymology: < post-classical Latin officiositas obligingness, courtesy (4th cent.; from c1070 in British sources) < classical Latin officiōsus officious adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare Italian officiosità (1598 in Florio), French officiosité (1610, 1662; subsequently from mid 19th cent.), Spanish officiosidad.
Obsolete. rare.
The quality of being officious; attentiveness, dutifulness.
