Etymology: < post-classical Latin omphacomel, also omphacomeli (5th cent. in Palladius as omfacomelli , ablative singular: see note) < Hellenistic Greek ὀμϕακόμελι (Dioscorides) < ancient Greek ὄμϕαξ unripe grape (see omphacine n.) + μέλι honey (see mell n.²).The post-classical Latin form omphacomel (beside omphacomeli ) probably shows influence of classical Latin mel honey (see mell n.²).

Obsolete. rare.
