1836 Laws of New-York cdlxxv. 720 It shall be the duty of the secretary of state, to furnish..to the clerk of each county, a correct oleometer, graduated so as to shew the difference between pure sperm oil and whale oil.
1861 R. T. Hulme tr. C. H. Moquin-Tandon Elements Med. Zool. ii. iii. i. 105 Cod-liver oil..should stand at 392° of Lefebvre's oleometer.
1866–77 H. Watts Dict. Chem. IV. 181 Lefebvre..has constructed..a hydrometer of peculiar construction, called an oleometer, having a very large cylindrical bulb and a very long stem, on which are inscribed densities from 0·8 to 0·94 for the temperature 15°, each density corresponding to that of a commercial oil.
