Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin olent-, olēns, olēre.
Etymology: < classical Latin olent-, olēns giving out a smell, use as adjective of present participle of olēre to smell, perhaps < the base of odor odour n., with change of -d- to -l-. N.E.D. (1902) gives the pronunciation as (ōu·lĕnt) /ˈəʊlənt/.
Obsolete. rare.
Smelling, giving out a smell or scent; redolent of.
