单词 oleandrin
释义

oleandrinn.

Brit. /əʊlɪˈandrɪn/, U.S. /ˌoʊliˈændrɪn/
Forms: 1800s– oleandrin, 1800s– oleandrine.
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French oléandrine.
Etymology: < French oléandrine (J. Lukomski 1861, in Repértoire de chim. appliquée 3 77) < oléandre + -ine -ine suffix5; compare -in suffix1.Lukomski also used the form Oleandrin when writing in German ( Jahresber. über die Fortschritte der Chem. 1861 (1863) 546). N.E.D. (1902) enters the word under oleandrine and gives the pronunciation as (ōuliˌæ·ndr.əin) /əʊliːˈændraɪn/.
Biochemistry.
A toxic cardiac glycoside, C32H48O9, with diuretic properties present in the leaves of the oleander.Lukomski ( Repértoire de Chim. Appliquée (1861) 3 78) reports Wurtz as saying that the compound cannot properly be described as an alkaloid, but it was so described by C. Bettelli ( Gazz. Chim. Italiana (1876) 6 310). Although the compound was isolated by O. Schmiedeberg ( Arch. f. Exper. Pathol. u. Pharmakol. (1883) 16 150), for a time some reference works described the compound as an alkaloid, or even listed two separate compounds, one an alkaloid and the other a glycoside.
