Etymology: < Brazilian Portuguese oiticica (1890; c1574 as †otisica, otisiqua, a1687 as †oiticiqua) and its etymon Tupi oitisica (also as uitisica) < uiti, name of a native plant + isika resin.

Any of several tropical South American trees, esp. Licania rigida (family Chrysobalanaceae), whose crushed seeds yield a drying oil used in paints and varnishes. Also: the oil or wood of any of these trees. Frequently attributive.
