单词 oiler
释义

oilern.

Brit. /ˈɔɪlə/, U.S. /ˈɔɪlər/
Forms: Middle English oyellere, Middle English oyller', Middle English–1500s oyler, 1800s– oiler.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: oil n.1, -er suffix1; oil v., -er suffix1.
Etymology: Partly < oil n.1 + -er suffix1, and partly < oil v. + -er suffix1. In sense 1 probably after Old French, Middle French, French huilier oil-manufacturer, oil-merchant (c1260; also in Old French as huillier, oilier); compare also classical Latin oleārius in the same sense. It is uncertain whether quot. 1278 at sense 1 should be taken as showing the English word or an (apparently otherwise unattested) Anglo-Norman parallel. Compare also early uses as a surname:1281 in G. Fransson Middle Eng. Surnames (1935) 70 Ric. le Oyller'..Will. le Oyellere.1332 in G. Fransson Middle Eng. Surnames (1935) 70 Alic. Oyler.
