Originally: any of several seabirds of the family Procellariidae. Now (chiefly): the grey-faced petrel, Pterodroma macroptera gouldi, of New Zealand. Cf. mutton-bird n.

1886 Trans. & Proc. N.Z. Inst. 1885 18 90 After sunset, thick clouds of these Petrels swarm round the cliff, uttering the melancholy sound ‘ohi! ohi!’ from which the Natives named it ‘Ohi’.
1922 Quick March 5 No. 5. 15 The tuatara lives in the same burrows as are used by the oii, the titi and the toanui. All three of these petrels are included in the term mutton-birds.
1947 A. W. B. Powell Native Animals N.Z. 79 Mutton Bird (Puffinus griseus), Titi or Oi..was and still is in the South an important item in the diet of the Maori people.

A type of harsh aggressive rock music, originally popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s; (hence) the youth cult associated with this music, typically linked with the skinhead movement.Although initially an offshoot of the punk phenomenon, and similarly identified as a movement of urban working-class youth, Oi came frequently to be associated with extreme right-wing political movements in the U.K. and Europe.
