Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Ommochrom.
Etymology: < German Ommochrom (E. Becker 1942, in Zeitschr. f. indukt. Abstammungs- u. Vererbungslehre 80 179: compare ommin n., ommatin n.) < ancient Greek ὄμμα eye (see ommateum n.) + German -o- -o- connective + -chrom -chrome comb. form.
Biochemistry.
Any of a group of invertebrate (chiefly arthropod) pigments derived by condensation reactions from kynurenine and giving yellow, red, and brownish body colours and commonly also found in the accessory cells of the eyes of insects.
