Origin: From a proper name, combined with an English element. Etymons: proper name Acadia , -lite comb. form¹.

Etymology: < the name of Acadia (see Acadian n. and adj.), where the mineral was first found + -lite comb. form¹. Named acadiolite by F. Alger and C. T. Jackson (see quot. 1840; compare -o- connective); Alger later adopted the spelling acadialite (see quot. 1844), although he was not the first to use it.

Mineralogy.

A reddish mineral long recognized as a particular form of chabazite.

1840 T. Thomson in Philos. Mag. 17 412 I received from Messrs. Jackson and Alger of New York (well known as the authors of an interesting and valuable paper on the geology of Nova Scotia), a specimen of a mineral which they have distinguished by the name of Acadiolite or yellow chabazite.

1842 Proc. Glasgow Philos. Soc. 1841–2 66 The proportion of alumina in chabasite is greater than in acadialite. If this difference be constant, acadialite must be considered a new species.
