单词 oggy
释义

oggyn.

Brit. /ˈɒɡi/, U.S. /ˈɔɡi/, /ˈɑɡi/
Forms: 1900s– oggie, 1900s– oggy.
Origin: Probably a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: Cornish hoggan.
Etymology: Probably an alteration (see -y suffix6, with loss of initial h-) of Cornish hoggan pastry, pie (18th cent.), further etymology uncertain; perhaps a specific use (via a sense ‘lump of dough’) of an otherwise unattested cognate of Breton hogenn pile, heap, or perhaps cognate with Welsh chwiogen muffin, simnel-cake (15th cent.), of unknown origin.
English regional (south-western, originally Cornwall) and Navy slang.
A Cornish pasty; (originally) spec. one having one half filled with meat and vegetables and the other with apples, etc.
