Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin obtundent-, obtundēns.
Etymology: < classical Latin obtundent-, obtundēns, present participle of obtundere obtund v.; compare -ent suffix. Compare French obtondant (1793 as adjective, 1834 as noun).With use as noun compare post-classical Latin obtundentia, plural:1753 Chambers's Cycl. Suppl. Obtundentia, a word used by some authors to express such medicines as are given to obtund, or edulcorate the acrimony of the humors.
