Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin obstupefactus.
Etymology: < classical Latin obstupefactus, past participle of obstupefacere obstupefy v. Compare earlier stupefact adj. N.E.D. (1902) apparently interprets quot. 1602 as implying both an adjectival and a noun use, but the latter seems unlikely.
