Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin obsolēscere.
Etymology: < classical Latin obsolēscere to fall into disuse, fade away, sink into obscurity < ob- ob- prefix + solēre to be accustomed, to use (see solent adj.) + -sc- (compare -ish suffix2). Compare earlier obsolescence n., obsolescent adj.
intransitive. To become obsolete; to fall into disuse.
