Etymology: < classical Latin obsignāt-, past participial stem of obsignāre obsign v. + -ory suffix2. Compare post-classical Latin obsignatorius that constitutes a sign or mark (Calvin, 16th cent.). N.E.D. (1902) gives the pronunciation as (ǫ̆bsi·gnătəri) /əbˈsɪɡnətərɪ/.
Obsolete. rare.
Ratifying, confirming; relating to ratification; spec. (of a sacrament) having a purely symbolic function.
