Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: ode n., -let suffix.
Etymology: < ode n. + -let suffix, perhaps after Middle French, French odelette (1555 as the title of a work by Ronsard). Compare odeling n.In form odellet in quot. 1898 referring to the works of Southern, where this form is used (see quot. 1584).
Now rare.
