单词 obol
释义

oboln.

Brit. /ˈɒb(ɒ)l/, U.S. /ˈɑb(ə)l/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin obolus.
Etymology: < classical Latin obolus obolus n. Compare obolus n., obole n.In Old English the word is only attested in the passage cited in quot. OE (the plural form obolos is probably after the Latin accusative plural form). The word was evidently reborrowed in the 17th cent., and there is no continuity of use with the Old English. The form obol. (with point) is attested from the Middle English period as a graphic abbreviation for obolus n. (compare discussion at that entry).
