Etymology: < classical Latin obnuntiātiōn-, obnuntiātiō the announcement of unfavourable omens < obnuntiāt- , past participial stem of obnuntiāre obnunciate v. + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare French †obnunciation (1611 in Cotgrave), †obnonciation (1765).
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
The announcement of unfavourable news; (Roman History) the announcement by the Roman magistrate of an unfavourable omen.
