Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin obnuntiāt-, obnuntiāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin obnuntiāt-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of obnuntiāre to announce an unfavourable omen < ob- ob- prefix + nuntiāre to announce (see nunciation n.).
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
intransitive. To announce an unfavourable omen; = obnounce v.
