Origin: A borrowing from Latin; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymon: Latin oblīvium.
Etymology: < classical Latin oblīvium oblivium n. (compare -y suffix4), perhaps after Anglo-Norman ubli, uble, obli, oblie and Middle French oubli, oublie action of forgetting (c1100 in Old French as ubli , c1180 as oubliee ; French oubli ; < oublier to forget: see oubliette n.). Compare slightly later obliviance n. and earlier oblivion n.
