Origin: A borrowing from Akan. Etymon: Akan odúm.
Etymology: < Akan odúm (in Twi region also as o-dom ) tree whose bark is used in practising an ordeal (compare quot. 1997).
The iroko, Chlorophora excelsa; (also) the wood or bark of this tree.
