Origin: A borrowing from Jinghpaw. Etymon: Jinghpaw Nung.
Etymology: < Jinghpaw Nung, denoting the Rawang people (compare Rawang n.).Outside South-East Asia formerly often confused with the unrelated Nung people of Vietnam (see Nung n.2). Jinghpaw (also called Kachin) is a Tibeto-Burmese language spoken in Burma (Myanmar).

Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Vietnamese. Or (ii) a borrowing from Chinese. Etymons: Vietnamese Nùng; Chinese Nóng.
Etymology: < Vietnamese Nùng or its etymon Chinese Nóng, of uncertain origin.Outside South-East Asia formerly often confused with the unrelated Nung people of northern Burma (Myanmar) (see Nung n.1). This was reinforced by the fact that the Tai languages, to which Nung of Vietnam belongs, were formerly regarded as a branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family, to which the Tibeto-Burman language of the Nung of northern Burma (Myanmar) belongs.
