Etymology: < classical Latin nuncupātiōn-, nuncupātiō the action of naming, the oral solemn expression of a vow, the oral declaration of a will or testament < nuncupāt- , past participial stem of nuncupāre nuncupate v. + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare Middle French, French nuncupation (1569; c1355 as noncoupacion, 1376 as nuncupacion). N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (nɒnkiupēi·ʃən) /nʌnkjuːˈpeɪʃən/.
