Etymology: Probably partly < post-classical Latin nuncius nuncius n. with omission of the ending, and partly < Middle French nunce (1521), nonce (c1527; French nonce ) < Italian nunzio nuncio n. Compare earlier nuncio n., and also nuntius n.
Obsolete (originally Scottish).
