Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin nunc, stāns.
Etymology: < classical Latin nunc now (see now adv.) + stāns, present participle of stāre to stand (see stand v.).Earlier use of the expression in Latin has not been traced (compare quot. 1651).
Philosophy.
Eternity or eternal existence, esp. as an attribute of God, conceived not as infinite temporal duration but as a form of existence not subject to the limitations of time, and hence involving neither change nor succession. Also occasionally in extended use, esp. with reference to mystical experience.
