Etymology: < classical Latin nummulus a coin ( < nummus coin (see nummi- comb. form) + -ulus -ulus suffix) + -ar suffix2. Compare French nummulaire (1837 in sense 2; 1545 in Middle French as noun in sense ‘moneywort’); compare also post-classical Latin nummularia moneywort (see moneywort n.). Compare nummulary adj.
