Etymology: < Byzantine Greek νουμίον, νουμμίον < ancient Greek νοῦμμος coin (probably < classical Latin nummus : see nummi- comb. form) + -ίον, diminutive suffix.
Numismatics.
A Byzantine copper coin, equal to one fortieth of a follis. Chiefly in plural.
