Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin nūgi-, nūgae.
Etymology: < classical Latin nūgi-, combining form (in nūgigerulus : see nugigerulous adj.) of nūgae nugae n.With the exception of the Latin adaptation nugigerulous adj., found only in a small number of apparently independent formations exemplified below. Compare French nugicanoricrepe, glossed by Cotgrave (1611) as ‘an idle singer of lyes, or trifling matters’.
Obsolete. rare.
Forming (chiefly adjectives) with the sense ‘of or relating to trifles or trifling’.
nugifrivolous adj. rare free or available for frivolous trifling.
