Etymology: < the name Norfolk Howard, appearing in an advertisement in the Times of 26 June 1862 claiming to be a declaration by a man named Joshua Bug that he had assumed the name of Norfolk Howard; compare quot. 1862¹, which makes clear the play on bug n.¹ 2.The name Norfolk Howard presumably alluded to the aristocratic Howard family, who have held the dukedom of Norfolk since the fifteenth century.
