Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: noose v., -er suffix1.
Etymology: < noose v. + -er suffix1.In sense 1, despite reference to Tamil in quot. 1816 at sense 1, perhaps after Malayalam uṟi noose + a noun derived < tulai- to kill. With sense 2 compare Sinhala kūruva elephant-catcher. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (nū·səɹ) /ˈnuːsə(r)/.
Obsolete.
