Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish novillo.
Etymology: < Spanish novillo (1253 in sense ‘young bull’, 1651 or earlier in sense ‘young fighting bull’) < classical Latin novellus (in bōs novellus young ox < bōs ox (see bovine adj.) + novellus novel adj.).
Bullfighting.
A young bull; spec. a fighting bull not more than three years old.
