Etymology: < classical Latin novāt-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of novāre to make new, to replace with something new, (in legal use) to replace with a new obligation, (also intransitive) to make changes < novus new adj.
transitive. To replace with something new; (Law) to replace with a new obligation, debt, etc., as a result of novation. Also intransitive: to institute a novation.
