Etymology: < post-classical Latin occasivus western (5th cent.) < classical Latin occāsus setting of the sun (see occase n.) + -īvus -ive suffix, perhaps after classical Latin ortīvus ortive adj. Compare French †occasif (1732 in amplitude occasive ). Compare ortive adj. Compare also Occident adj.
Obsolete. rare.
Relating to the setting sun, western.
