单词 ablet
释义

abletn.

Brit. /ˈablᵻt/, U.S. /ˈæblət/
Forms: 1700s– ablet, 1700s– ablette.
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French ablette.
Etymology: < French ablette the bleak (1525 in Middle French; 1386 in Middle French (Picardy) as auvette , showing spirantization of -b- ) < able denoting various cyprinid fishes (1393; < post-classical Latin abula (1239 in a French source), alteration (with dissimilation of l ) of classical Latin albula small fish < albus white (see album n.2) + -ula -ula suffix; compare Italian regional (Marche) avola (a1730)) + -ette -et suffix1.Compare English regional ablen (recorded in dictionaries in the late 18th cent. and first half of the 19th cent.), which probably shows a different, though clearly related word (the exact nature of its relationship to ablet n. is unclear):1775 J. Ash New Dict. Eng. Lang. Ablen, (a local word), the bleak.
The bleak, Alburnus alburnus, a cyprinid fish.Formerly apparently in English regional use, but later chiefly in French contexts.
