nolpv.

Forms: Middle English nolpit (past tense, in a late copy).
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: nope v.
Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps the same word as nope v., although if so the relationship is unclear: the forms at nope v. may show reflexes of forms with vocalization of l , or alternatively the present word may show -ol- simply as a spelling for an ou diphthong, by analogy with words with vocalized l (as e.g. bowt , variant of bolt n.1; for a similar process compare nolt n.).A further etymology has not been established. N.E.D. s.v. suggests a Scandinavian etymon with an au diphthong, but no likely form has been identified.
Obsolete. rare.
