Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French nitrification.
Etymology: < French nitrification (P. Thouvenel Climat d'Italie (1797) IV. 189) < nitrifier nitrify v. (see -fication suffix). Compare Italian nitrificazione (1834).
