Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on a Russian lexical item. Etymons: Latin Nitraria , amine n.
Etymology: < nitr- (in scientific Latin Nitraria, genus name) + amine n., after Russian nitramin (N. Ju. Novgorodova et al. 1973, in Ximija Prirodnyx Soedinenij 196).
Chemistry.
An alkaloid which occurs naturally in several shrubs of the genus Nitraria (nitre-bushes); C10H19NO.

1973 Chem. Abstr. 79 468/1 Nitramine, isolated from above ground parts of N[itraria] schoberi, had structure (I) as detd. by uv, ir, NMR, and mass spectroscopy.
1985 Jrnl. Nat. Products 48 903 The alkaloids (−) isonitramine..and (+) nitramine..were isolated from two species of the genus Nitraria by Russian chemists.
